Biostatistics (BIOL 250)
- This courses introduces data organization, summary and analysis. Through lecture and laboratory exercises, students learn the basics of the R programming language, how to apply the proper statistical test to biological data, and how to make appropriate conclusions based on the results of the statistical test.

Journal Club (BIOL 326)
- This discussion-based course is based on readings from primary scientific literature. By reading and discussing the literature, students learn how primary literature is organized, discover the logic in its structure and presentation, and make connections between scientific problems, hypotheses, and the methods that provide answers moving our understanding forward. Past topics include microbial ecology and chemical ecology.
